Ian Mahan
Crafting songs that people connect to is one of the few options left for musicians and songwriters who opt to pursue a career in music. That's exactly what Denver's Ian Mahan has spent the last ten years doing. After gradually building a fan base in Northern Colorado and exploring musical endeavors in the forms of bands and then ultimately forming himself as a solo artist, Ian very efficiently and economically produced his first self-titled EP with his live drummer and band director JD Raab. A relative latecomer to music, Ian first started playing guitar at the age of 18.

"I never had guitar lessons, though my mom did make me take piano lessons when I was a kid. The guitar was just different for me, I didn't have the drive to play piano, but I definitely wanted to learn more about the guitar as time went on."

In 2015, nearly four years after the release of his first EP, Ian released "Tiger Lily", a six-song compilation of carefully crafted songs that breach the singer-songwriter genre and begin to experiment with electronic elements.

"I recorded Tiger Lily with Randall Kent who produced the record as well and I was on a tight budget for the record because I was funding it myself. Randy made sure we didn't waste any time in putting the best effort into it. I think the songs on that really turned out to be a special group of songs. I love them all very much."

Even before releasing "Tiger Lily", Ian was beginning to make a name for himself by performing with acts such as Vanessa Carlton, Howie Day, The Rocket Summer, Parachute, and Joe Brooks. Ian has continued his upwards trajectory of performing with acclaimed artists such as Lisa Loeb, James McCartney, and Lewis Watson.

"I just want to write music that people enjoy and connect with them. I really want to create an experience for the people that come to my shows and listen to my music. I just want to make people relate to music. If I can do that a little bit at a time, then I am pretty happy."
Matt Rouch and the Noise Upstairs
Based out of Denver, CO, Matt Rouch & The Noise Upstairs are making waves in the Colorado music scene. Rouch, a self-proclaimed southpaw whiskey-loving Virginian, self-released his first full-length solo album, "The Beautiful and the Damned" in March 2016 and now his 4-piece alt-country folk group is one of Denver's fastest up and coming bands, with mentions in Music Connection Magazine, Denver Post, Marquee Magazine, Scene Magazine, and Axs.

"We all came together because we love bands like the Avett Brothers, Elephant Revival, The Decemberists, etc. so it made sense for most of us, we do have one Phish-head who loves him some jam bands, but he's also a classically-trained violinist so it works out. When I first came to Denver I was blown away by the talent here, there's so many amazing musicians, but what really drew me were the songwriters, there's a whole underground scene of phenomenal songwriters that need to be brought to light, this town isn't like a Nashville where songwriters are really appreciated and a few of us intend on changing that. The band just wants to make music for people who appreciate songwriting, melody, structure, etc. with a little twang too it, not too much, just enough, I've been called Country-Light, might need to trademark that."
