Riot Fest & Sideshow Officially Name Sports Authority Field at Mile High as 2014 Location!

Denver's Riot Fest & Sideshow to be Staged at
Sports Authority Field at Mile High and Byers is Coming Along

Byers, Colorado and May Farms to be recreated onsite
Riot Fest Officially Files Formal Appeal With Arapahoe County

For immediate release – July 18, 2014

Riot Fest is happy to announce that after visiting many great venues over the course of the past week that Sports Authority Field at Mile High will be the official home for Riot Fest & Sideshow, Sept, 19-21, 2014 in Denver, Colorado.

Although dozens of venues were interested in hosting the event, organizers chose the stadium for several factors, one of which being that stadium management have allowed Riot Fest to recreate Byers, Colorado and May Farms on the new fest grounds.  Riot Fest made many friends in the Byers community, and it truly saddens organizers to be forced to move the fest away from its inaugural home – but if the farm is unavailable, they’ll bring the farm to Denver. Moreover, as previously promised, free parking will be made available to the festival's patrons, and Mile High's location will allow for public transportation options through the RTD.  All tickets will be honored at the new location and refunds for those who purchased camping spots will be processed starting today.

Outside of bringing the May Farms aesthetic to the new site, organizers will also go ahead with the previously planned carnival rides and games, a miniature golf course, lucha libre, a large circus tent with oddities performers and a long list of amazing food vendors.  Other plans include turfing the parking lot of the stadium and bringing all the things people love about May Farms (tractors, hay bales, etc) together with all the things to love about a country fair (rides, a pie eating contest, apple bobbing and more).  Even the stages and vendor rows have been renamed to indicate Riot Fest’s support of Byers, Colorado.

To thank the Byers residents, Riot Fest organizers have also confirmed the following:
  • Any Byers resident who wants to come to Riot Fest this year will receive complimentary tickets as well as free daily shuttle service to and from May Farms and Sports Authority Field.  Details will be announced next week on how residents can sign-up for this.
  • Riot Fest will also allow several Byers businesses and other I-70 Corridor businesses who supported them free vending space at no cost.
  • Riot Fest has also announced a $5,000 scholarship to be awarded to one graduating senior who plans on majoring in music, arts, business or marketing.  Riot Fest has now asked other partners, industry friends and other Colorado businesses to contribute in hopes of getting that scholarship up to $20,000.

Hundreds of residents of Byers wrote letters and showed support for Riot Fest in the past weeks and organizers would sincerely like to thank them for their support.  Although Riot Fest has now officially chosen Sports Authority Field at Mile High as their 2014 home and will not move, producers will formerly file an appeal this morning against the Arapahoe County’s decision regarding their 2014 temporary use permits.

One, two, and three-day passes for Denver's festival are still available and on sale now at ticketfly.com or visit riotfest.org for more information

Riot Fest & Sideshow Full Album Surprises!

Riot Fest Unveils “10 Years. 10 Essential Albums.”
For Chicago & Denver
Ten Bands To Play Their Seminal Albums at Riot Fests

On the heels of announcing Riot Fest in three cities within the past week (Toronto, Chicago and Denver), organizers have released the first big surprise in celebration of Riot Fest’s 10th Anniversary, entitled “10 Years. 10 Essential Albums.”

“During last year’s Violent Femmes’ set at Riot, where they performed Violent Femmes unannounced in its entirety, it dawned on me that if we ever did an album play thing at Riot, we should make it something that the fans would remember years from now,” said Michael Petryshyn, Riot Fest partner. “So, I literally was walking back to my trailer after their set and it hit me… ‘10 Years. 10 Essential Albums.’… and yeah, it grew from there.”

To help celebrate Riot Fest’s 10th Anniversary, ten bands have joined in to play their seminal albums either at Riot Fest in Chicago or in both Denver and Chicago. Nine of the bands have been released today:

Jane’s Addiction: Nothing’s Shocking (Chicago)
The Offspring: Smash (Chicago)
Weezer: “The Blue Album” (Chicago & Denver)
Slayer: Reign in Blood (Chicago & Denver)
Samhain: Initium (Chicago)
NOFX: Punk In Drublic (Chicago & Denver)
Descendents: Milo Goes To College (Chicago)
Naked Raygun: Throb Throb (Chicago)
The Get Up Kids: Something To Write Home About (Chicago)

There is one more album organizers are holding close to their chests, but have promised to unveil it in a separate announcement in the upcoming weeks, as well as additional 10th Anniversary surprises.

“We have one more band playing an album that we’re immensely excited about… but it wouldn’t be Riot if we didn’t tease a little beforehand,” chuckles Petryshyn. “No matter what though, this is really about thanking our fans. The work put into the lineups this year and things like the essential albums plays is for them… as clichéd as it may sound, it’s the truth. We’d be nowhere without them and maybe the way we thank them is by giving them a fest where we can all sing along."

Riot Fest is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, and to celebrate organizers have assembled three festivals in North America this September: Toronto's Riot Fest & Expo (9/6-9/7) at Downsview ParkChicago's Riot Fest & Carnival (9/12-9/14) in Humboldt Park, and Denver's Riot Fest & Sideshow (9/19-9/21) at May Farms.

Tickets for Riot Fest & Sideshow Denver are available here. More band announcements are forthcoming as well as a few more 10th Anniversary surprises. posted: May 16, 2014

"Hard to believe it's been 10 years,” reflects Michael Petryshyn, founder of the festival. “Really doesn't seem it's been all that long. But, my partner Sean (McKeough) and I are so very lucky that the fans believe in what we do...And I'm just as thankful that a good chunk of our friends from over the years are coming back to play and blow out a few birthday candles alongside us. Between both, that's what makes this year special."

With help of local indie promoter Soda Jerk Presents, Riot Fest arrives in Denver for the 2nd year, where fans will gather at May Farms in Byers, Colorado for three days of music, rides and other attractions in view of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The Denver festival also offers the option to camp and spend the weekend enjoying the great outdoors. This year, organizers have streamlined parking, camping operations and other aspects of the festival, while capital improvements are being made to the site itself.

ALBERT HAMMOND, JR.’S NEW EP NOW STREAMING IN ITS ENTIRETY ON ROLLING STONE
NOVEMBER TOUR DATES CONFIRMED
AHJ OUT OCTOBER 8 ON CULT RECORDS

“Rife with incessant high-range guitar work, mechanistic rhythms and
shrugging, swaggering vocals.”Stereogum

Albert Hammond, Jr.’s new EP AHJ is now streaming in its entirety exclusively on Rolling Stone. Of the new EP, Rolling Stone says, “Hammond sounds fully recharged…howling his best vocals ever over stuttering, futuristic riffs of ‘St. Justice,’ the manic grooves of ‘Rude Customer’ and the anthemic ‘Cooker Ship’” (http://rol.st/16JSvnw). In anticipation of AHJ, Cult Records premiered the track “St. Justice,” while BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe premiered “Rude Customer” as The Hottest Record in the World. Hammond appears on the “Late Show with David Letterman” tonight, performing “St. Justice.” To celebrate the release of AHJ, Hammond will tour the U.S. this November. Please see reverse for full tour routing.

AHJ will be released October 8 on Julian Casablancas’ Cult Records and follows Hammond’s previous solo efforts, 2006’s Yours to Keep, which NME called “an intimate, frequently beautiful and consistently surprising record that gets better with every listen,” and 2008’s ¿Cómo Te Llama?. Of the new EP’s relationship with his earlier releases, Hammond says, “It’s a combination of both previous recordings, which in turn makes it feel like it’s the best material that I’ve made so far.”

AHJ was produced, engineered and mixed by Grammy-winning producer Gus Oberg and recorded at Hammond’s two studios, Broome Street in Manhattan and One Way Studios in upstate New York. Of working with Oberg, Hammond says “I’ve been working with him since my first solo project, after we met and became best friends. We get along and we understand each other musically, so everything just flows.” Hammond played all of the instruments on the EP himself, excluding drums on several tracks, which were played by longtime collaborator Matthew Frank Romano.

Since the release of ¿Cómo Te Llama?, Hammond has released two critically acclaimed albums with The Strokes, 2011’s Angles and this year’s Comedown Machine. Of his inspirations for AHJ, Hammond said “Once you play music for a living, you’re always thinking about stuff. Conversations with friends and things you hear in moviesthings come up and become lyrics. Hearing other people’s songs becomes like competitionyou hear something and mentally you want to beat it. Life in general is pretty inspiring.”

Cult Records is helmed by Julian Casablancas. In addition to Albert Hammond, Jr., forthcoming releases include C O L O R, Exclamation Pony, Rey Pila, Reputante and more.

SODA JERK PRESENTS EXPANDS VENUE ROSTER

THE MOON ROOM AT SUMMIT MUSIC HALL NOW OPEN

DENVER, CO - Soda Jerk Presents is thrilled to announce the latest addition to Denver’s live music community, the MOON ROOM at Summit Music Hall.  In an effort to increase support of local artists while continuing to develop national and international touring acts, Soda Jerk introduces a new, smaller capacity club to their current fleet of venues.

The MOON ROOM, located inside the Summit Music Hall, will focus on local bands and artists from Colorado as well as a wide range of national talent to be featured regularly. The recent addition will serve as a quality setting for musicians to be showcased and will offer the opportunity for artists to grow into larger venues as their fan base develops.

Soda Jerk’s desire to provide a professional performance space in a booming downtown Denver location has been achieved through the installation of an exceptional sound system, high-quality lighting rig, and brand new stage.  The layout of the venue ensures an unbeatable source for intimate concerts and guarantees a memorable show experience for both performer and spectators alike.

The MOON ROOM will regularly offer drink and food specials to be paired with inexpensive (and often free!) concert tickets, making live music accessible and affordable for all to embrace. Based on the overwhelming success of Marquis Pizza on Larimer Street, the MOON ROOM also incorporates the first dine-in Marquis Pizza experience where patrons can enjoy live music and a wide array of beverage options nightly.

“Artist development has always been a passion of mine, and adding this venue to our roster is going to be great for a lot of newer artists,” explains Soda Jerk Presents owner and talent buyer, Mike Barsch. “My goal with the MOON ROOM is to offer something different in the city.  I want to create a place where people can see great up and coming bands inexpensively and still ensure the bands are well compensated. On any given night, local shows in the room will be very inexpensive or even free.  The drinks will be cheap and the food will be cheap.  No one in the city does it the way we’re going to do it.  It’s the perfect model.  The bands and fans will love it!  We can’t wait to kick this off.”
